"American Dirt" is the tale of a mother and young son who flee cartel violence, running 2500 miles from their home to a coyote border crossing into the USA. The book is fiction. Controversial for its cultural appropriation, American Dirt’s author Jeanine Cummins is not of Mexican descent. An Oprah’s Book Club choice, she stood by her selection saying, “It helped me to see immigrants and the whole migration process differently than I had before."
See you next month in person!
