The Lake County Clerk‘s Office is pleased to announce the commencement of early voting on Thursday, February 8th. Voters may begin casting their ballots on this date at the Lake County Main Courthouse Lobby, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085. The Courthouse voting location will be open from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday through Friday, through March 1st. County-wide early voting opens at designated locations on March 4th. Lake County voters may use any early voting site regardless of where they live. For the full list of early voting locations and their hours of operation, please see the image below or visit bit.ly/LC_EarlyVoting. Hours and dates vary at each location. Some sites offer extended weekend and evening hours. For additional election information, please visit LakeCountyClerk.Info. You may also visit LakeVoterPower.Info for personalized voter information.

Be sure to put this date on your calendar! The annual Program Planning meeting is your opportunity to take an active part in determining the focus of our advocacy efforts in the coming year. In addition to reviewing current public policy positions, we will discuss proposed studies—among them, the LWVIL Gun Violence Prevention study some of our members have already joined.

Join the League of Women Voters of Illinois for a special pre-election webinar on “How Illinois Strives to Ensure a Secure Election Process.” Matt Dietrich, public information officer of the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE), will speak, followed by a Q-and-A session. The event precedes the March 19 Primary Election and is the first of several League webinars where noted authorities will speak on relevant topics leading up to the U.S. Presidential Election on Tuesday, November 5. Presented by LWVIL’s newly-formed Misinformation and Disinformation Task Force, the event is part of an effort to provide tools and resources that educate voters.

Jackson Women‘s Health Organization held that the U.S. Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. This decision has had reverberations throughout the country and will be the subject of considerable debate in this election year. Please join us for a program with Julie Strauss, Ph.D., whose work has focused on the impact women members of Congress have had on public policy. In addition to two years on Capitol Hill working for elected officials, she has spoken to groups at local community colleges, community centers, and several Road Scholar seminars.
